YOUTH SAILING CAMPS
Our sailing camps introduces participants, through our Keiki program ages 8-11 or our Teen program ages 12 & up, to the fundamentals of sailing.
Our fleet consists of: 6 Topper class boats, along with a few performance dinghies of 12-18 foot Lasers & 20-22 foot Keelboats and motorized safety boat.

What can your child can expect to learn:
-
Introduction to Sailing: we begin with an overview of sailing concepts, including boat parts, wind direction, points of sail, and safety procedures.
-
Onshore Learning: students will learn sailing theory and terminology through interactive sessions led by experienced instructors. This includes topics such as boat handling, rigging, knots, and navigation.
-
Types of Watercraft: Students will learn about each dinghy they'll be sailing, its various components and how to rig and prepare it for sailing.
-
On-Water Practice: Students transition to on-water sessions where they put theory into practice. They learn how to launch and recover their dinghies, maneuver in different wind conditions, steer, tack, and gybe.
-
Safety Training: Safety is emphasized throughout the program. Participants will learn about personal flotation devices (PFDs), capsize recovery techniques, and how to respond to emergencies while on the water.
-
Sailing Skills: Your child willl have the opportunity to gain confidence and skills while in camp. We build upon skills learned to progress toward more advanced skills such as sailing upwind, downwind, and across the wind, as well as mastering techniques for controlling boat speed and direction.
-
Teamwork and Communication: Our camps use double-handed dinghies, and they learn how intergral teamwork and effective communication between skipper and crew.
-
Environmental Awareness: Our programs incorporate lessons on environmental stewardship, teaching participants about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems while sailing.
-
Fun and Enjoyment: We are here to have fun and we plan out camps to be enjoyable for participants, encouraging a lifelong love for sailing and the water.
-
Race Training (Optional): Experienced students and if there is availability we may offer an introduction to dinghy racing for those who are interested, covering racing rules, starting procedures, and strategy.
Our camps we consider safety a top priority, and instructors closely supervise participants to ensure a safe and positive learning experience for all.
At the conclusion of our camps a celebratory regatta is hosted where we have a potluck and participants can share what they have learned to family and friends.
